On Tuesday, March 8th, at it's secret hide-out in the back at Perdition bar, Eighty Proof Club will have David Nichols, co-owner of Brooklyn's Kings County Distillery. And David will have a selection of his distillery's delicious whiskeys for the club to sample.
There are some consistencies across Kings County whiskeys. They are all made from a combination of New York and Scottish grain, distilled using traditional Scottish copper stills, and primarily corn-based, in the American tradition of bourbon making (though not all are bourbons).
To push the club's exploration of corn-based spirits to its limit, member Steve Johnston will put up another distillery's bourbon against one of Kings County's. The two bourbons will have different mashbills – at least 51% corn by definition, with the rest being up for grabs - and the club will put its collective mind to discerning the implications on flavor.
And speaking of flavor, Empanada Mama's empanadas will be making a highly anticipated return to the club. And vegetarians, there are empanadas for you too. And there will be a bunch of other treats too. Basically, come hungry and come thirsty.
