Learn Moonshining @ Char No 4

By Thomas Turnbull - Posted on 11 July 2011

Tuesday, July 12, 2011 - 8:00pm

You may already know that Kings County Distillery is New York City's first whiskey distillery since prohibition, but what may surprise you is that they make only 2.5 gallons of whiskey a day, working out of a 325-square foot room.

Now's your chance to learn how to make your own moonshine from Nicole Austin, one member of the very small craft spirits crew at Kings County.

Join Char No 4 tomorrow, Tuesday, July 12th at 8:00pm when 20 guests will learn the intricacies of small scale distilling from mash & low wine to barrel tasting. Nicole will also walk you through a tasting of Kings County's award winning whiskey. As an added bonus, each guest will go home with their own 200ml flask to share with friends.

Admission is $40, and reservations will be accepted immediately. Based on past experience the limited spots will go quickly so please call soon to guarantee a seat.

Nicole Austin is a chemical engineer by day and a distiller by night. She's been with Kings County Distillery since August 2010, developing new recipes, monitoring production, tasting bourbon barrels, and sharing whiskey with everyone she meets. Like everyone at Kings County, Nicole is a self-taught craft distiller who learned the fine points of whiskey production through reading, collaboration, and much trial and error. When she is not working, Nicole spends most of her time "cultivating" her bourbon tasting skills.
