Last Hooch Project of the year; might as well drink something good....

The Goal:
A super casual, nonprofit project aiming at discovering what spirits are really about by drinking the best stuff for very little money.
Two, sometimes three times a month I select ONE bottle of an excellent & rare spirit which is then poured at COST at one of my friends' bar.
Tasting lasts until the bottle is gone.

What: One bottle of Port Ellen 30 year 9th Release Islay Scotch Malt Whisky Cask Strength
How much: poured at cost i-e $12 per oz.
Why is it a good deal: distillery closed in 1983; limited stocks are released each year; a fantastic 30 year old whisky at cask strength (57.7%).
Where: Stella - 213 Front st (Seaport), NYC.
When: Tuesday December 20th.
What Time: I'll open the bottle at 6:30pm sharp; tasting will last until the bottle is gone.
Requirements: be over 21, be there at 6:30pm if you want a chance to get a dram & have $12 on hand.

Malt Advocate/Whisky Advocate Magazine notes:
Port Ellen, 30 year old, 57.7%, $370
Port Ellen whiskies are going to just keep getting rarer and more expensive. This old-fashioned whisky is beginning to show its age, but is still holding up nicely. It’s clean, with no excessive oak and soft sweet maltiness for balance. Earthy and rooty at times, with tarry rope, beach pebbles, leafy smoke, bourbon barrel char, black licorice, lemon peel, and hints of shellfish and diesel fumes (like following a boat in the ocean). Long, smoky, lightly briny finish.
Advanced Malt Advocate magazine rating: 93

This event is not free

$12
