SCOUT NOTES
Whiskey is like the bad girl at a Sadie Hawkins dance: it pairs well with anything hot and exotic. Enter a spread of hors d’oeuvres from Little Italy’s Chinese restaurant of note, Red Egg, and you have a whiskey-perfect match. On its second revolution with Hand-Picked, Whiskey Roundtable presents a matchmaking evening between the liquefied and fried delicacies of both the East and West, serving up the very best for the first Whiskey Dim Sum a Go-Go.

Until the recent food fetish coup, whiskey was recognized as a gentleman’s drink, or as the lubricant of the high-rolling ad industry during the days of Don Draper. Now is your chance to climb the ladder with sober footing, negating the hoity toity connotations you’ve come to inadvertently associate with whiskey tastings.

For Whiskey Dim Sum a Go-Go, West Virginia distillery Smooth Ambler will be providing well-aged bottles from its Old Scout line: Old Scout Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Old Scout Straight Rye Whiskey, and Very Old Scout Straight Bourbon Whiskey. You’ll approach whiskey with an open mind, this evening substituting a subconscious lowball-glass-with-steak correlation for salty deep-fried chicken wings with a sweet Manhattan. Repeat with a bourbon and coconut pudding paring, letting the vanilla-y aftertaste from the libations' cask complement the sticky sweet flavor of the traditional Chinese dessert. Guiding your education will be John Little, Smooth Ambler’s Head Distiller.

All participants will be entered into a raffle for a chance to score a bottle of Old Scout bourbon or rye whiskey. We can’t show you the way to the next whiskey bar (oh, don’t ask why), but Whiskey Dim Sum a Go-Go is your one-way ticket down the path of discovery. Raise your glass and paint the town red. It’s going to be a spirited night.
