The Whiskey Rebellion: From Scotland to America with Robin Robinson

Whiskeys: Weller Special Reserve, Smooth Ambler Old Scout Rye, Compass Box Great King Street Artist's Blend, Compass Box Hedonism, Compass Box Peat Monster

When whiskey makers jumped the pond and started distilling in America a great change took place. Out was malted barley, the grain of choice for Scotch whisky, and in was corn--sweet, rich, and plentiful--as well as rye with its spicy and floral character. Corn and rye gave us bourbon, full of youth and energy, a true rebellion from the their Scotch whisky cousins whose longer time in the cask and distinct grain bill reflect what some might consider a more restrained personality. At this special tasting, Robin Robinson of Compass Box Whisky Company will help us dive into the history (and flavor profiles!) of these distant but delicious cousins!

You will taste two iconic examples of American whiskey and three celebrated artisan whiskies from Compass Box Whisky Company.

The tasting will include a sampling of delicious snacks from our kitchen.

The tasting will be limited to 20 guests. Reservations can be made at Char No. 4 or by calling the restaurant at 718-643-2106.

Admission is $45 per person.

About Robin
Robin Robinson has combined his background in theatre and sales with a life-long love of single malt Scotch whisky to serve as the US Brand Ambassador for Compass Box Whisky. As such, he is responsible for the sales, retail and consumer education of the brand; sales responsibilities in managing distributor relationships, budgeting and promotions; promotion of Compass Box through field marketing events such as tastings, pairing dinners, seminars, festivals and social networks; and otherwise serves as the "face" of the brand in the US in lieu of company founder and whiskymaker, John Glaser.

Robin is in demand as a lecturer on brown spirits and whisky and aside from the many "spontaneous" whisky lectures during the course of duties, has spoken at the renowned Astor Center in New York; Brooklyn's International Wine Center, the Culinary Institute of America and the International Culinary Center in NYC. Robin has been featured in publications such as 201 Magazine and the Chicago Sun Times. He lives in New Jersey.
