Kentucky Derby Party @ The Brickyard
In the 1950s, Sports Illustrated asked a few famous novelists to attend, and write about, the Kentucky Derby. The one and only John Steinbeck weighed in with this report:
“This Kentucky Derby, whatever it is—a race, an emotion, a turbulence, an explosion—is one of the most beautiful and violent and satisfying things I have ever experienced.”
Every first Saturday in May, we celebrate the annual rite that is the Kentucky Derby, known as “the fastest two minutes in sports.” For the owners, a lifetime of dreams plays out as 20 horses stampede down the stretch of Churchill Downs for the first time, and then gradually separate themselves until one stands alone, wearing a blanket of roses, in the winner’s circle.
Where can you celebrate such a beautiful, violent and satisfying thing? Why, where you celebrate all things you associate with beauty, violence or satisfaction – Brickyard Gastropub. We’ll be hosting our annual, epic Kentucky Derby Party on May 5.
With nine giant screens, Brickyard is one of the very best bars in New York City to watch the Kentucky Derby.
We will be showing the other races from Churchill Downs all day long, and serving $5 Mint Juleps all day. We’ll be serving our regular menu, including our bar menu.
We are also offering these Kentucky Derby-themed appetizers and dessert:
* Andouille and Black Eyed Peas Salad - Roasted andouille sausage tossed with cooked black eyed peas and colorful vegetables(red onion, carrot, celery, yellow and red bell pepper) in balsamic vinaigrette.
* Mini Hot Brown – A mini version of the original Kentucky Hot Brown (the name stems from the Brown Hotel in Louisville,KY where it was created) - Hot Turkey, mushroom and sliced tomato on a toasted brioche slider bun topped with thick creamy Parmesan sauce baked to golden brown.
* Kentucky Burgoo with cornbread - Three meat stew (pork, beef, chicken) with potato, corn, Lima beans and tomato…this traditional Derby stew is thick and little bit spicy…served in bowl with a piece of house made southern style savory cornbread.
