The Eighty Proof Club presents Brooklyn’s Van Brunt Stillhouse at CK14 The Crooked Knife.
Daric Schlesselman, founder of Van Brunt Stillhouse in the Redhook neighborhood of Brooklyn, will present his Rye, American, and Single Malt Whiskeys. He’s also bringing a special batch of moonshine made from malted barley, in place of the traditional corn.
Though mostly self-taught, Daric also trained at Kilchoman distillery in Scotland, helping him seamlessly blend American and Scottish methods. But with ingredients sourced from upstate and everything made from scratch in Red Hook, his whiskey is quintessentially New York.
Daric was previously an editor on the Daily Show, where he was known for being utterly meticulous in his work. His attention to detail may be part of the reason that Van Brunt took home Brooklyn Distillery of the Year in the 2014 New York International Spirits Competition.
