Classic Cocktails, Classic Film: Whiskey @ Astor Center

Friday, August 20, 2010 - 6:30pm

PRESENTER: NORA MAYNARD

Humphrey Bogart, Greta Garbo, Robert Mitchum, Bill Murray...

Bourbon, Rye, Moonshine, Single Malt...

Of all the spirits in Hollywood, whiskey’s the hands-down winner for Most Versatile Liquor in a Supporting Role. Over the years, this heady player’s given nuanced performances alongside smugglers and bootleggers, tough dames and private eyes, as well as swinging singles and sophisticated connoisseurs.

Sip on a series of spirits (and whiskey-based cocktails) while we roll clips from a collection of some of Hollywood’s best-loved classics - as well as a few lesser-known big-screen gems. Packed with pop culture (and, of course, ample shots of whiskey), this cinematic drinking tour will transport you to a wee island in the Scottish Hebrides, send you speeding through the backroads of Tennessee and Kentucky, take you gumshoeing through the film noir-ish streets of New York and San Francisco, all the way into the bright lights of a TV studio in Tokyo.
