The Hooch Project is back. Please note that THE VENUE HAS CHANGED (at least for this time)...

The good people at BUBBLE LOUNGE Tribeca (entrance on 228 West Broadway) are kindly letting us use the downstairs private room.
The space is gorgeous and easy to get to (1 train at Franklin, A, C, E at Canal) which doesn't hurt.

What: One bottle of 1990 Clynelish 21yr Chieftain's K&L selection Single Sherry Barrel
How much: poured at cost i-e $6 per oz.
Why is it a good deal: This bottling comes from a single cask selected by West Coast's wine & spirits merchant K&L. I read a lot about it, am a big Clynelish fan and have been wanting to try it for a long time.
Where: BUBBLE LOUNGE - 228 West Broadway (Tribeca)
When: Tuesday May 29th.
What Time: I'll open the bottle at 6:30pm sharp; tasting will last until the bottle is gone.
Requirements: be over 21, be there at 6:30pm if you want a chance to get a dram & have $6 on hand.

What does David Driscoll (K&L) has to say about it?
(Disclaimer: yes this is one of the guys who sourced the cask, had it bottled for his store and sold it to his customers so he might be biased...thought they usually are very reliable and for sure know their whiskies. We'll see for ourselves if we concur with his statement.)
Clynelish, perhaps the most respected single malt in the world by whisky insiders, is a whisky renowned for its light, fruity, Highland character.
However, what would happen if one of the few sherry-aged Clynelish barrels were isolated from the recipe and bottled as a single cask selection? The answer is here at K&L.
An absolutely stellar, 21 year old sherry cask of Clynelish was sitting right next to our Brora cask at the Chieftain's warehouse so we pulled the trigger.
The heather now mingles with raisined fruit, the citrus fruit now turns candied, the wax turns into dripping oil. The complexity of this whisky is simply astounding and collectors everywhere should rejoice at the price.
Clynelish is easily on my top five distillery short list and this is one of the best and most unique I've tasted.

What is the Hooch Project NYC?
A super casual, nonprofit project aiming at discovering what spirits are really about by drinking the best stuff for very little money.
One, sometimes twice a month I select ONE bottle of an excellent & rare spirit which is then poured at COST at one of my friends' bar.
Tasting lasts until the bottle is gone.
