Fluid Fridays: Suntory Japanese Whisky
Event Dates:
Friday, May 18, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Friday, May 25, 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Description of tasting:
Forget Scotch and Bourbon for Fridays in May, as we’ve got Suntory pouring four Japanese whiskies and a cocktail as part of our Fluid Fridays series. USQ welcomes Gardner Dunn and the best-selling Japanese whisky brand to the Barrel each Friday from 6 to 9pm. Dunn will highlight various selections from each Suntory series, Yamazaki, Hakushu, Hibiki, and the signature Sakura cocktail.
Suntory may have made a name for itself thanks to Bill Murray in the film Lost in Translation, but each spirit deserves respect in its own right. Compare and contrast the single malt, wood- and honey-driven Yamazaki 12-year with the Yamazaki 18-year, full of apricot, cafe au lait, and spiced fudge notes. The Hibiki 12-year, blended from numerous single malt whiskies aged in a variety of casks, features slightly more tropical notes, like pineapple, cocooned in a soft, sweet woody character. Looking for more of an aperitif? Try the Hakushu 12-year, called the “fresh whisky” thanks to its green notes—apple, pear, fresh leaves—and soft smoky notes, or the Sakura, a concoction of Yamazaki 12-year, St. Germain, Dolan dry vermouth and grapefruit bitters.
Admission to this tasting is free, and reservations are NOT required!
