The book is by turns a meditation on whiskey and the interlocking threads of American independence, an exploration of our divided national character vis-à-vis spirits, and a guide to the science behind the act of creating your own moonshine.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Colin Spoelman, a former rooftop moonshiner from Kentucky, and David Haskell, the great-grandson of a Prohibition-era bootlegger from New York, founded Kings County Distillery in 2010 to make small-scale batches of moonshine, bourbon, and other whiskeys. Spoelman also works in architecture and Haskell is a deputy editor at New York magazine.

We offer sit-down, class format tastings for up to 150 people, and standing, cocktail-style events for up to 225 people in our main events room, The Bunker. Our classroom-style private events are guided by one of our expert sommeliers, who offers in-depth information, tips, and advice on the wines selected. In our cocktail-style events, our sommeliers give a brief talk about the wines being poured in a more casual manner and guests move between wine stations, tasting and mingling. Catering options from fellow Chelsea Market retailers or other Chelsea vendors are also available to enhance your event.
