Have you wondered exactly what it is that you love about Bourbon? Do you wonder what the heck people are talking about when they say a Scotch is “peaty” Or what that distinct flavor is in Tequila or Gin? You know you like it (or not) but the words to describe it escape you.
This class will define your taste in spirits, teach you the vernacular involved in describing what you’re experiencing, and allow you to articulate what you want in your next drink.
We will taste through a variety of white and brown spirits, first discussing the techniques behind tasting critically, then we’ll identify the flavors typical to each category. Everything will be tasted “blind” in order to remove any biases or preconceived notions. We will talk through the taste, aromas, and overall impressions as a group, cementing our newly formed language skills. Then, to put our newly learned skills to the test, we will conclude the class with one last blind taste test (hint: this isn’t going to be easy).
By the end of class you will have experienced many “ah-ha!” moments. But, more importantly, you will gain a new understanding of your ability to taste and the words to articulate the flavors you’re experiencing. The class will bring together taste and vocabulary, so that you will be able to communicate like a pro and, in the end, drink better. Because isn’t that what it is really all about?
Cheers!
