First Annual Maysville NYC Derby Day BBQ Bash
Celebrate this year’s Derby with Maysville, the New York City restaurant with a true spirit of Kentucky authenticity
On Saturday, May 4, join Maysville for what is sure to be the most authentic Kentucky Derby party that Manhattan has ever seen. Maysville, named after the town in Kentucky where bourbon was invented, has deep southern roots. Maysville Executive Chef and Partner Kyle Knall, himself a native of Birmingham, AL, will be teaming up with BBQ master John Markus to prepare a BBQ feast in honor of one of the most famous events in the South, the Kentucky Derby.
Knall and Markus will be preparing BBQ on the street across from the restaurant with a custom-built rig made in Birmingham, AL and brought to NYC especially for the event. The BBQ will be a mix of tomato and vinegar base that will appeal to any BBQ aficionado. To honor the classic southern BBQ shacks, Knall has created a side dish menu of classics such as Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and Braised Collard Greens. In addition to the BBQ and sides, a few of Maysville’s signature dishes will be available as well, including Crispy Grits with Country Ham and Bourbon Aioli, Hay Roasted Oysters with Salsify and Pickled Shallots, and Deviled Eggs. Of course, Mint Juleps will be served along with your choice of more than 170 American whiskeys, and a full wine and cocktail list.
What better place to celebrate Kentucky than Maysville, which New York Times critic Pete Wells recently called “a restaurant that feels thoroughly American” in his outstanding two-star review.
Though there is no dress code for this event, guests are welcome to dress festively and women are encouraged to wear hats! The Kentucky Derby will be shown on screens in the restaurant.
